I have been very behind on my assignments and wanted to make an animation that will embody 2 things that we learned in the same time. The idea comes from one of the illustrations that I was doing for another project. All of the illustrations belong to me. I would love to shout out big Thanks to Ali Sajjadi for recording the voice of the planet. The sound of the UFO is my funny interpretation :)

When it comes to the technical parts I would like to talk about the process a little bit. Everything started with a sketch.
Then came the process of creating texture for the Planet and make that UFO look more realistic.
Next step was to use Motion Sketch in After Effects to create the path for the UFO to annoy the planet. I've also created eyes on a different layer to manipulate their movements following the UFO. After that is done, it was time to record the voice of the planet. At that moment Ali Sajjadi - my fellow ITP 2013 student - happened to be sitting next to me and accepted the challenge gracefully. This voice created the feel of the character; an annoyed planet yelling to the UFO.
To make the planet talk I needed to add another layer and trace a mouth on top. Once that's done I added an expression to the scale of that layer and I attached that expression to the KeyFramed audio of Ali speaking. The volume of the sound is controlling the scale of the mouth. I had to test couple of different multipliers to find the exact effect I wanted. Also I had to figure out how to move the anchor point of the mouth layer. If your anchor point is not on the center of the mouth you will be getting some interesting results that does look very very wrong. It took a while but as always it was a tiny button that was the magic of moving the anchor.
I also played with the glowing of the UFO by attaching that layer's glow radius effect to the sound of UFO. That created very settled glow in queue.
Hope you enjoyed the end product.
